 3 reasons to install this color wheel

1. The wheel gives you 4 different combinations - Complementary, triad, analogous and tetrad. You have so many more colours to play around with. Vary the shades of the combination colour and create different contrasts- what ever suits your mood. 3. Cushioning on the inside. Press the inside of a shoe, where the ball of your foot is supposed to sit, it should have some cushioning. If there is no cushioning, use gel inserts.

4. Chunkier heels rather than stilletos. Heels with wider contact area with the floor offer more support definitely. Also do look where the heel sits, it should be centred under the heel of your foot for better weight distribution.                   

5. Sole should not be too thin and smooth, that it gives you a walking on concrete feeling. For shoes with thin soles, your shoe repair guy can put a rubber sole on the base,  not only does it make the shoe less slippery but the rubber sole acts as a shock absorber too.

6. The right size. We all do look for the right size but we also talk ourselves into the idea of 'breaking in' the shoe. If it does not feel comfortable, its not the size for you and sizes vary from brand to brand. So do try 1/2 size or 1 size up. Never ever settle for tight shoes and hope for them to expand.

7.Top stitching on leather shoes. Avoid them. Shoes that have obvious stitches running all around on the top part of the leather shoe makes the leather lose its ability to stretch.

8.Low vamp shoes rub on the widest part of the foot and can cause bunions. Ouch! (Bunions are misaligned big-toe joints at the base of the toe) Therefore, avoid the shoes that give you toe-cleavage and go for styles where the toe box covers your entire toes.

Quality shoes will have all these features. So, spending more on shoes that give comfort and last you a long time are definitely a good investment.

 Inspired by Gok Wan's Fashion fix, this blog is all about thinking out of the box. Gok Wan repeatedly works out different ways of wearing a top or a dress and creates many different looks and of course his creatively styled high street clothes always win the challenge against the expensive designer brands, in the fashion face off section of the program. Well, its high fashion and not all looks are practical but the point is, with just a snip here and a stich there he transforms the ordinary to extraordinary.

So, if you have a wardrobe full of clothes that you dont want to part with and yet feel like you need a new look- get your thinking caps on and here is what you do -

Get a very clear idea of what looks best on your body shape. After which, you seperate the pieces that you wear regularly from the ones that dont seem to work for some reason or the other.

Your style revamp to-do list:

1. Change the length of a skirt, a dress or a top. More often than not, every wardrobe has some long dresses and skirts that are much loved but never worn or not worn enough. Alteration is the answer.. get them taken up.

2. Change a neckline - you will be suprised how changing a crew neck to v-neck or turtle neck to scoop neck can totally change the way the top looks.

4. Again, think out of the box, look at shop window displays and fashion magazines for ideas and try to create combinations that you might not have tried before.. create different colour combinations...

and if you really want to get into it, you can even try to reconstruct your own clothes. There are many books available that give you ideas on how to reconstruct clothing.

1. Tweeze: which most women do or prefer to get done. Not bad, if you dont mind the pain.

2. Shave: with an eyebrow shaver. The results are good but once your hair starts to grow back, the short thick hair can be quite unsightly.

3.Wax: The desired shape might be a little bit difficult to achieve and then there is the hot wax to be considered, which has to be at just the right temperature to avoid disastrous results.

4.Thread: My recommended option. The thread cleans out all the tiny, fine hair that cannot be picked with a tweezer and the end result is significantly cleaner, shapely eyebrows. The best would be to get a professional to shape your eyebrows and then you can keep up the maintenance by tweezing the hair as it starts to grow back.

 A. Hold the pencil from the corner of your nose, against the inside corner of your eye and where it meets your eyebrow is ideally where your eyebrow should start.

 B. To achieve the arch in the right place, hold the pencil in front of your eye, align the side of the pencil along with the outer edge of your eyeball, where the pencil meets the eyebrow is the point where you should get an arch.

 C. Hold the pencil from the corner of your nose, against the outer corner of your eye and where it meets your eyebrow is where your eyebrow should stop.

While using eyebrow pencil or brush to define your eyebrows, use the pencil or brush in short swift strokes to add colour in between the hair, in the direction of your natural hair growth. If you use a pencil, please ensure that the line is well blended and soft, that is why instead of 'drawing' your eyebrows, 'fill in' your brows with a colour closest to the natural colour.

One last tip, if your eyebrows are dense at the begining and fade out considerably giving you the half eyebrow look, fill in the colour from the middle to complete and balance out the shape.

Well, fidget no more! These strips of double sided tape have kept many a Hollywood stars supporting plunging necklines, from doing a ‘peek-a-boob’ on the red carpet.

2. Behind the Seams: These garment protectors are  unique moisture-wicking, quick-dry fabric, unbeatable for stopping wetness and protecting clothing. Prevent embarassing underarm wetness, protect fabrics from stain, keep underarm odor off clothing and simply keep your shirts from getting ruined.

 3. Hollywood squares: remember those annoying white deodorant marks that get on your top or dress, everytime you slip them on - these specially fabricated pink foam squares remove unsightly marks in an instant, without using water. These fashion savers also take care of make-up powder on neckline and pet hair.

You will  find a full range of these and other Hollywood Secrets products at the lingerie section in Tangs shopping center. Since the fashion tape is so popular it does get sold out very fast. Look for them in Topshop or warehouse.

 Some other handy tips: remove lint or fluff from your dark clothes using the sticky side of a packing tape. Gently press the sticky side to the garment and lift the fluff off.

And my absolute favorite fashion saver is Dylon stain remover ( easily available at cold storage or Fairprice). Don't bother rubbing salt, vinegar or whatever else you have been told to use to get rid of stains, Dylon stain remover works like magic. I have even removed a day old red wine stain from a bright blue top.

Now, here are 4 reasons to stop running away from horizontal stripes and welcome them as a chic addition into your wardrobe.

1.Widely spaced horizontal lines, definitely make you look wider  and hence fat, but thin horizontal lines close together create an elongating effect, making you appear taller and slimmer.

2. Use the widening effect to your advantage. If your shoulders are narrower than your hips, create balance by wearing the horizontal stripes on the upper half of your body. Find dresses or tops that strategically place the wide horizontal stripes on your shoulders.

3. If your hips are narrower than your shoulders, create balance by placing horizontal stripes on the lower half.

4. Wearing horizontal stripes in low contrast colours has less obvious widening effect than colours in sharp contrast.For eg: replace black and stripes with colours that are closer to each other.

So, take the horizontal stripes in your stride.

 2.      You can only even out your skin tone with foundation and concealors, they will not make your frown lines or wrinkles disappear.

 3.      Using an angle brush to fill in your eyebrows works better than eye brow pencil. It will blend the colour into your eyebrows better.

 4.      Knowing which eye shadow shade in a palette (light, medium or dark shade) goes where, to suit your eye shape, is more important than knowing which colours to apply.

 5.      Wipe your mascara brush with a thick  tissue when it starts to get clumped up with mascara. This will prevent getting blobs of dried up mascara onto your lashes.

 6.      Wash your brushes at least once in six months with shampoo, cold water and conditioner. The conditioner helps to keep bristles soft. Let them dry naturally.

 7.      All make-up products have a shelf life. If it has been lying unused for more than a year or two its probably time to bin it.
